Ukraine Peace Summit: Russia Not Invited, China Absent, 80 Countries Sign Joint Declaration

Reported 8 months ago

The Ukraine Peace Summit, hosted in Switzerland last weekend, saw representatives from over 90 countries in attendance. Ukrainian President Zelensky proposed a 10-point peace plan, including the withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine, nuclear safety issues, and ensuring food supplies for Asian and African countries, aiming to garner support beyond the Western nations. The summit did not invite Russia, the aggressor in the conflict, and was questioned by attending countries for not achieving substantial results. Notably, China, with significant influence over Russia, was absent from the summit, while Brazil sent a low-level official to avoid taking sides. The summit concluded with over 80 countries signing a joint declaration to end the Ukraine war, but Saudi Arabia, India, Brazil, and others declined to sign. Zelensky expressed hopes for comprehensive negotiations with Russia, and a follow-up peace summit will be held after consensus is reached with allies and neutral countries.
