Ukrainian Eastern Front Commander's Incompetence Sparks '99% of Soldiers' Disdain', Zelenskiy Announces Replacement

Reported 11 months ago

Ukrainian President Zelenskiy announced on June 24 that Lieutenant General Yuriy Sodol, the commander of the Ukrainian Joint Forces, has been replaced. This decision follows criticism from notable military figures who accused Sodol of inflicting more harm on Ukrainian soldiers than Russian commanders. Zelenskiy stated the replacement of Sodol with Major General Andriy Gnatov but did not specify the reason. The leader of the prominent Azov regiment, Bogdan Krotevych, recently criticized Sodol publicly for causing severe losses within the Ukrainian forces. Krotevych highlighted the discontent among soldiers towards Sodol's leadership, leading to a call for investigation by the Ukrainian State Bureau of Investigations. Following the replacement, Krotevych expressed hope for improvement under Gnatov's leadership. Sodol, appointed in February, led the ground forces in Eastern and Southern Ukraine but faced setbacks against Russian advances, prompting multiple changes in military leadership to reverse the situation.
