Ukrainian Refugees Find Solace in Handmade Traditional Cuisine at Friendship Gathering

Reported about 1 year ago

In response to World Refugee Day on July 5, 2024, Tzu Chi organized a friendship event in Poznań, Poland, where Ukrainian mothers came together to make traditional dumplings, easing their homesickness. They also crafted unique crystal bracelets and hand-painted cake magnets. Through online connections, Poznań Tzu Chi invited Ukrainian families to uplift each other with 160 participants engaging in crafting activities, haircut services for the elderly and children, and homemade traditional dishes. A local vegetarian restaurant owner even surprised the children with a large pizza delivery. The event featured parent-child activities, discussions with experts offering consultations, and a psychologist teaching coping mechanisms for grief and depression. Volunteers and participants contributed to fostering a rare sense of camaraderie and mutual support while cherishing the bonds formed in a foreign land.
