Ukrainian Whales Successfully Transported to Spain Amid Battle of Kharkiv

Reported 8 months ago

On June 21, 2024, a pair of whales, Plombir and Miranda, originally housed at NEMO Aquarium in Kharkiv, Ukraine, were safely transported to Valencia, Spain, as the city endured constant shelling by Russian forces. The whales, sensitive to soundwaves, faced deteriorating health due to the nearby explosions. With the joint efforts of international marine mammal experts, the whales arrived at Oceanografic in Valencia, the only facility in Europe equipped to house them, but one of the whales is still not eating. The Ukrainian trainers accompanied the whales to Spain to help them adapt to their new environment.
