Ukrainian Women Learn to Operate Large Farm Equipment Amid Conflict

Reported 12 months ago

Although the Ukraine-Russia conflict may no longer be the top international focus, with continued fighting and missile attacks causing casualties and significant damage to Ukraine's power facilities, Ukrainian women are stepping up to learn how to operate large farm equipment in the absence of male workers who have been called to the frontlines. With the majority of men fighting in the war, there is a historic labor shortage in Ukrainian rural areas, pushing women and mothers to take on the responsibility of operating machinery like harvesters and trucks to support their families. Despite the ongoing challenges, hope remains as European countries pledge financial and military support to Ukraine for reconstruction and reforms, while Russian President Putin expresses discontent and vows to resume production of missiles in response to the West's actions.
