UN Backs Peace Deal for Gaza Conflict after 36 Weeks, Israel and Hamas Yet to Respond

Reported 11 months ago

Since Hamas invaded Israel last October 7th, the Gaza conflict has lasted over 36 weeks. However, the UN Security Council voted on Tuesday on US President Biden's proposed three-phase ceasefire plan, with 14 in favor and only Russia abstaining, marking the first time the UN has endorsed a peace agreement for Gaza. Both Israel and Hamas have yet to express their opinions on the UN resolution. Efforts for a ceasefire continue as the conflict persists and US Secretary of State Blinken makes his 8th visit to the Middle East for mediation efforts, with consensus waiting on responses from Israel and Hamas.
