Unemployed Man Turns to Scam as ATM Cash-out Driver | Xizhi Police in New Taipei Continuously Strengthen ATM Patrols to Crack Down on Fraudulent Activities

Reported about 1 year ago

Xizhi Chang'an Police Station officers in New Taipei encountered a suspicious man at a post office ATM on June 7, who attempted to flee upon being questioned and was caught with a cash withdrawal of one hundred thousand NT dollars. The man, surnamed Su and born in 1987, resorted to scamming to make money after losing his job, acting as an ATM cash-out driver for a fraud group. Su had been previously caught in mid-May for the same crime but was released on bail; however, he tried to commit another offense during the Dragon Boat Festival by operating in Xizhi and was apprehended thanks to proactive ATM patrols by the police. Xizhi Police warned the public about fraud schemes utilizing fake online auctions and impersonating relatives to deceive victims into transferring money, advising people to be cautious during online shopping and phone calls, verify information through official channels, and avoid sharing bank account details or ATM cards to prevent becoming victims of fraud. The police will continue to crack down on scams through enhanced investigation and public awareness efforts to protect people's financial security.
