Cheng Wen-tsan, the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation and former mayor of Taoyuan City, was unexpectedly implicated in a bribery case, taken away by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for questioning yesterday morning, interrogated for 16 hours overnight, and detained this morning, reportedly related to a land development case during his tenure as mayor. Coincidentally, the day the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office applied for his detention happened to be Cheng Wen-tsan's 57th birthday, making it a memorable and unhappy birthday for him. Cheng Wen-tsan is suspected of involvement in a Taoyuan land development case and was detained this morning.
