University Admission Shortfall of 11,000 Students Due to Overwhelming Interest in STEM Programs

Reported 7 months ago

According to the University Entrance Committee's statistics, this year's university admissions in Taiwan resulted in an 11,000 student shortfall across the country, the second highest in seven years, primarily due to the rising popularity of STEM programs influenced by AI and semiconductor industry trends. Despite private STEM universities having a 90% enrollment rate, institutions focused on social sciences like National Chengchi University saw a decrease to 67%. Factors contributing to the shortfall included fewer admission spots, increased applicants, and heightened interest in certain fields due to industry impacts.
