On June 18, 2024, at 11:03 PM, the Supreme Court in Taiwan upheld the 4-year prison sentence for a male assistant professor at a private university surnamed Lin for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. In 2021, Lin visited his ex-girlfriend in the early morning to discuss stocks, and in response to her indifferent attitude and a sound she made, he became angry and used her 1.35 kg laptop to repeatedly hit her head and face. This resulted in severe injuries to her head, left eye, and face. Despite Lin's claim of accidental harm, the court found evidence that he intentionally used force to harm the victim, leading to the final confirmation of his prison sentence. The court highlighted the intentional nature of the assault and the severe injuries inflicted on the victim.
