As per reports, a fire broke out in an apartment building on Yanshou Road in Tucheng District, New Taipei City, resulting in 3 deaths due to a suspected lithium battery explosion caused by charging. Taiwan Power Company shared 5 dangerous charging behaviors on their Facebook fan page, warning against leaving devices unattended while charging, charging near flammable objects, using non-original chargers, charging in humid or high-temperature environments, and continuing to charge if there are signs of odors or battery swelling. Emphasizing that regularly charging a cell phone to 100% can harm the battery, they recommend unplugging the device before reaching full charge for safety. Additionally, caution was urged when using lithium batteries in power banks, advising against using damaged batteries and avoiding overcharging for safety reasons, while highlighting the importance of purchasing certified products from the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI).
