Lockheed Martin subsidiary Sikorsky confirmed on June 27th that the U.S. Army has delivered two new T901 turboshaft engines to Sikorsky's factory in Florida for integration testing with the UH-60M 'Black Hawk' helicopter, aiming to enhance its performance. The T901, created by GE Aviation, is part of the U.S. Army's Improved Turbine Engine Program (ITE) to replace the 1970s T700 engines on the 'Black Hawk'. It is anticipated to boost success rates by 5%, reduce fuel consumption by nearly 25%, and has more durable components than the T700 series for lower lifetime costs. Sikorsky will install the engines on a test aircraft for ground and flight tests, with plans to swap all 'Black Hawk' engines with T901s in the future.
