The US Space Force has announced the reestablishment of the 5th Space Operations Squadron (5th SOPS), which will now be under the Delta 9 command and focus on space vehicle and orbit testing missions to enhance operational capabilities and strengthen space security. The activation ceremony took place at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington D.C., where Colonel Spear received the squadron's flag from Colonel Begli, marking the official reorganization. The squadron will be responsible for missions involving the X-37B spaceplane to bolster US space safety efforts and expand operational potential, following the completion of six flights and the ongoing seventh mission.
