The U.S. government's auto safety regulator has closed a 2.5-year investigation into Ford's engine failures due to the company's actions, including engine replacements and warranty extensions for affected vehicles. The investigation, which began in May 2022, focused on the failure of intake valves in certain turbocharged engines, leading to issues in over 411,000 vehicles, including popular models like the Ford F-150 and Explorer. Despite identifying faulty valves produced in a specific time frame, Ford maintained that most failures occurred at low mileage and recalled about 91,000 vehicles for inspection and potential new engines. The investigation found no crashes or injuries related to these failures.
