In November, the U.S. government reported a budget deficit of $367 billion, a 17% increase from the previous year, attributed to calendar shifts in benefit payments that added approximately $80 billion to outlays. Without these adjustments, the deficit would have been about $29 billion lower. This figure marks a record high for November and contributes to a total deficit of $624 billion for the first two months of the 2025 fiscal year, also a record, driven by higher expenditures in major programs like Medicare and Social Security.
