The U.S. Coast Guard reported that a ship that took on water in Lake Superior likely had a stress fracture in its hull instead of striking something below the surface as initially thought. The ship, Michipicoten, carrying iron ore with 22 crew members on board, experienced a hull issue while in open water. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the ship managing to reach a port in Thunder Bay, Ontario, without losing cargo or discharging pollutants into the lake.
