A research report in The New England Journal of Medicine revealed that even after pasteurization using the HTST method, raw milk from cows infected with H5N1 avian flu still contained traces of the virus. The FDA collected 275 raw milk samples from farms in 4 states, with half showing virus traces after pasteurization, and 25% containing infectious viruses. Further studies are being conducted to verify the reliability of pasteurization in eliminating the virus.
