Russian President Putin proposed peace talks between Russia and Ukraine with the precondition of Ukraine withdrawing from the occupied areas of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk, and Luhansk, and foregoing NATO membership, offering to start negotiations 'tomorrow.' Ukrainian President Zelensky deemed the proposal unreliable, with his advisor Podolyak calling it a deception. US Defense Secretary Austin expressed that if Putin is willing, the war could end today and urged Putin to withdraw troops from Ukrainian territory. Austin stated that he cannot dictate to Ukraine what measures to take for peace, emphasizing Putin has the power to end the war.
