According to Baker Hughes, U.S. energy companies have added oil and natural gas rigs for the fifth consecutive week, marking the first such increase since May 2022. The rig count rose to 593, the highest level since June, although it remains 36 rigs, or 6%, lower than last year. Oil rigs declined by two to 486, while gas rigs increased by three to 102. February saw the largest monthly increase in total rigs since November 2022, even as spending plans for 2025 indicate a slight cut compared to 2024.
