The US economy is projected to lose billions in 2025 due to a decline in foreign tourism and boycotts of American products, with plane arrivals of non-citizens dropping nearly 10% in March from the previous year. Goldman Sachs suggests that in a worst-case scenario, these declines could account for almost $90 billion or 0.3% of GDP. Factors such as increased border hostility, geopolitical tensions, and negative reactions toward the US have deterred potential visitors. This downturn poses significant risks, especially with international tourist spending, particularly from Canadians, already declining sharply.
