US FAA authorizes Joby Aviation's ElevateOS for air-taxi operations

Reported 8 months ago

Joby Aviation has received approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to use its in-house software, ElevateOS, for tasks like managing pilot workload and matching passengers with aircraft. This authorization comes as Joby prepares to launch commercial air-taxi operations in 2025. The California-based company has agreements with Uber and Delta Air Lines for software integration, and plans to offer ElevateOS as a service. Joby's eVTOL aircraft can carry a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph. Despite investing in air taxi technology, challenges in technology and regulations have impacted the industry, with Joby's shares falling 24.8% this year.
