The U.S. and Japan are currently conducting the biennial 'Brave Shield' joint exercise in the Western Pacific, with U.S. military aircraft deployed to Japanese Self-Defense Force bases in Aomori and Miyagi prefectures for the first time. This deployment aims to verify the 'Agile Combat Employment' (ACE) concept. The exercise involves training scenarios simulating how U.S. forces would relocate to JSDF bases under the U.S.-Japan security treaty in case their facilities in Japan were rendered inoperative due to attack, highlighting the strengthening cooperation between the two allies in enhancing deterrence capabilities amidst increasingly challenging international security environments.
