US fines Emirates $1.5 million for operating in prohibited airspace

Reported 7 months ago

The U.S. Transportation Department has fined Emirates $1.5 million for flying flights with JetBlue Airways' designator code in prohibited airspace. Emirates operated numerous flights with the JetBlue Airways code between the UAE and the U.S. in airspace banned by the FAA, violating a 2020 consent order. Emirates may face additional fines if the rules are broken again within a year. The airline cited direct instructions from air traffic controllers for flying below permitted levels to avoid collisions.
