A panel of US health experts convened by the Food and Drug Administration voted overwhelmingly against using MDMA, also known as ecstasy, to treat post-traumatic stress disorder. Although two studies suggested MDMA's safety and effectiveness in treating PTSD, the majority of experts were not convinced by the data, citing concerns about efficacy and safety. The FDA rarely goes against their recommendations, and concerns were raised about participant blinding, lack of side effect data, and allegations of research misconduct.
