US housing: Regional Disparities in New Home Construction

Reported 8 months ago

Despite rising interest rates affecting new home construction in most of the United States, specific regions like the West have managed to sustain their home-building activities. In the West, housing starts for both single-family and multi-family homes were up 2.6% year-to-date and single-family homes under construction saw a nearly 5% increase compared to the previous year. California's efforts to increase housing affordability through new zoning codes have contributed to this growth, while other regions like the Northeast and Midwest have experienced declines in construction due to high borrowing costs.
