Reported 6 months ago

The US Transportation Department imposed $2.5 million in civil penalties against Lufthansa, KLM, and South African Airways for significant delays in providing over $900 million in refunds to passengers due to COVID-19 flight disruptions. The penalties, including $1.1 million on each of KLM and Lufthansa, were credited for refunds on non-refundable tickets for disrupted US flights, while the airlines cited unprecedented refund requests during the pandemic as the reason for delays.
