Dozens of US industry associations are urging the White House to help revive talks between East and Gulf coast dockworkers and port operators, as contract negotiations broke down earlier this month. More than 150 groups, including the US Chamber of Commerce and National Retail Federation, are concerned about the potential economic impact of a strike amidst global supply chain strains. The current agreement covering 45,000 dockworkers at major US ports expires on September 30, with disruptions potentially leading to increased freight rates and longer lead times for new orders.
