US, Japan, and South Korea Hold First Joint Maritime Exercise to Deepen Indo-Pacific Security Cooperation

The U.S. Coast Guard, Japan Coast Guard, and South Korea Coast Guard conducted their first joint maritime exercise in the Sea of Japan on June 6th, enhancing the maritime security capabilities, Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), and operational interoperability of the three countries to address potential maritime security threats in the Indo-Pacific region. The exercise involved a simulated ship collision and fire incident to improve coordination and cooperation in joint search and rescue operations, with each country deploying patrol vessels, drones, and aircraft. This exercise aims to normalize and strengthen cooperation in maritime law enforcement among the three nations, supporting the enhancement of maritime security capabilities in Southeast Asia and Pacific island countries.
