US Jobless Benefit Applications Drop as Layoffs Remain Low

Applications for unemployment benefits in the US saw a modest decline last week, dropping by 5,000 to a total of 227,000, as layoffs remain relatively low despite indications of a cooling labor market. The four-week average of claims also decreased, and the total number of Americans receiving jobless benefits fell by 22,000 to 1.84 million.
