The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits decreased by 6,000 to 213,000, remaining near a seven-month low, according to the Labor Department. However, continuing claims rose by 36,000 to 1.91 million for the preceding week, indicating a struggle for those receiving benefits to find new jobs. Although weekly claims are relatively low, the Federal Reserve is shifting focus from controlling inflation to supporting the job market amidst a backdrop of mixed economic indicators and changing interest rate policies.
