US judge blocks FTC partial ban on worker noncompete agreements

Reported 12 months ago

A federal judge in Texas partially blocked a U.S. Federal Trade Commission rule that would ban noncompete agreements commonly signed by workers, stating the FTC lacked the authority to impose broad rules on such practices. Approximately 30 million U.S. workers have signed noncompetes, and the judge blocked the rule enforcement against a business coalition, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, temporarily. The ruling is seen as a win against what was deemed as an unlawful power grab by the FTC.
