U.S.-founded law firm Dechert is contemplating shutting down its offices in Hong Kong and Beijing as part of a trend among foreign firms in Greater China amidst economic uncertainties and growing tensions between the U.S. and China. With over 20 employees in Hong Kong and only three in Beijing, Dechert is in discussions with employees, particularly lawyers, about relocating to Singapore. The move follows similar decisions by other global law firms to downsize or close their China offices, citing reasons such as data privacy rules and geopolitical tensions.
