The U.S. House of Representatives committee on China has asked the FBI and intelligence community for a briefing on GenScript Biotechnology Co and its three subsidiaries to investigate potential influence by the Chinese Communist Party. Concerns were raised about the intellectual property of U.S. firms and the enhancement of China's biotech capabilities through their collaborations. GenScript, a pharmaceutical research and manufacturing service provider, denied taking direction from any government and expressed willingness to engage with the House committee. The lawmakers' interest in GenScript follows a similar scrutiny of Chinese biotech companies in the House, aiming to reduce U.S. dependence on Chinese research and manufacturing in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
