The U.S. Department of Justice is preparing to sue TikTok over allegations of privacy rights violations concerning children, rather than claims of misleading adult users about data privacy practices. The U.S. FTC investigated the matter and referred the case to the Justice Department following violations discovered by the investigation. TikTok has opposed the allegations, and the lawsuit is separate from concerns in Congress about data privacy and ByteDance's divestiture mandate by the U.S. government.
