In September, U.S. layoffs dropped to 72,821, a 4% decrease from August's five-month high. However, year-to-date announced layoffs of 609,242 have exceeded last year's figures for the same period, marking the highest total since 2020. Although there are signs of a cooling labor market, other indicators, like unemployment filings, remain low. The technology sector led job cuts, and AI has played a significant role in these reductions.
