On June 15, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act targeting China with over 1,000 pages of text and more than 100 amendments, including measures related to Taiwan such as evaluating the establishment of a strategic partnership between the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit and Taiwan. The Senate version, which passed a committee vote, includes an additional $100 million in budget to train Taiwanese forces, but due to discrepancies between the two chambers, further negotiations are required. The House version also contains three amendments related to Taiwan, focusing on the deployment of asymmetrical naval assets to defend Taiwan and the potential strategic partnership between the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit and Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense.
