US Power Generation Sees Biggest Increase in Two Decades as AI Demand Rises

US power developers have significantly boosted electricity generation capacity in the first half of 2024, adding 20.2 gigawatts, marking the largest increase since 2003, driven largely by the demands of data centers and artificial intelligence. The continued expansion is expected to reach 42.6 gigawatts by year-end, with solar energy projected to contribute nearly 60% of this new capacity.
