Yu Dawu, who took over as the US representative after former Vice President Hsiao Mei-chin, has been embroiled in controversies for misusing public funds to purchase luxury items, letting his wife treat diplomats as servants, among other issues. Yu was reported to have insisted on purchasing a luxury car worth nearly 4 million NT dollars and spent over 2 million NT dollars on furniture, appliances, and even daily necessities like toilet paper and toothpaste, all under the guise of hosting guests. Both Yu and his wife faced criticism for their indulgent behavior, including using the official car for personal trips, showing a lack of respect for diplomatic norms and taxpayers' money.
