The US solar industry is tackling tariffs imposed by the Trump administration through inventory hoarding. Developers have accumulated a significant stockpile of solar panels, estimated at around 50 gigawatts, which can power approximately 8.6 million homes. This inventory helps mitigate the financial impact of new tariffs, particularly as most solar imports come from Southeast Asia, where tariff rates are high. However, the industry still faces long-term challenges as tariffs will eventually affect both imported and domestically produced components.
