Although the label alone won't make social media safe, studies suggest it can raise awareness and influence behavior, akin to the impact of warning labels on tobacco products. Murthy emphasizes the need for regulation by the U.S. Congress to implement these warning labels and has been warning about the detrimental effects of social media on youth, including the increased risk of depression. Some states like New York and Florida are already taking steps to protect minors from such harms through legislation.
