According to a report by the US think tank CSIS, besides invasion and military blockade, China could potentially isolate Taiwan by utilizing maritime law enforcement conducted by its coast guard. This approach, not considered a declaration of war, would make it harder for the US and other democratic allies to respond effectively. The report suggests that China's coast guard could employ a 'gray zone' strategy to cut off Taiwan's ports and disrupt essential supplies, posing a challenge for Taiwan's limited maritime resources. However, analysts remain skeptical about the feasibility and economic benefits of such a strategy for China, with concerns about potential international backlash and the ability of Taiwan to withstand prolonged isolation.
