The US government released draft regulations on June 21 that would ban or require notifications of investments in Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) and other technology industries that could pose a national security threat, aiming to prevent Beijing from enhancing its military capabilities through sensitive technology development. The regulations, based on an executive order signed by President Biden last August, focus on semiconductor, quantum computing, and AI sectors to protect technologies related to military innovation and ensure national security. The Treasury Department will seek public opinion until August 4 and plans to implement the new rules by the end of the year, effectively limiting investments in China's AI industry by then.
