Many people use dental floss incorrectly, unknowingly just moving food particles and plaque around instead of cleaning properly, which can lead to larger gaps between teeth and even gum inflammation. Dentist Hsu Chia-Jung points out 3 incorrect ways of using dental floss, including pressing vertically down, sawing back and forth, and using the same piece to clean an entire gap. Instead, he demonstrates the correct way of flossing by gently hugging the side of the tooth to remove debris effectively. It is advised to replace the floss after 2-3 uses to avoid causing more harm than good.
