The wreck of the USS Harder, a renowned US Navy World War II submarine, has been discovered in the South China Sea off the northern Philippine island of Luzon. The submarine, which sank in battle on August 24, 1944, was found under 3,000 feet of water and is mostly intact except for damage from a Japanese depth charge. The Harder was lost during its sixth patrol of the war, with its entire crew of 79 submariners. The discovery was confirmed by the Lost 52 Project, which aims to locate the 52 US subs lost in World War II.
