Valve to Add Game Recording Feature on Steam for Replays, Sharing, and Editing

Reported 12 months ago

Valve has announced the upcoming release of a game recording feature on Steam, allowing players to record gameplay directly for later replays, sharing, and editing. The feature, currently in testing, operates in the background without affecting game performance, offers options like setting recording time and capacity limits, and includes an easy-to-use interface with manual start and stop options. Users can view, share, or edit saved recordings in MP4 format and share them via network transfer, Steam App, QR Code, or temporary web links. The recording function applies to games supporting Steam's embedded interface, utilizing hardware encoding with AMD or NVIDIA GPUs to reduce CPU usage, strictly focusing on in-game content without recording user device screens. Valve plans to introduce more features, including customized recording options for games and providing tools and API resources for easier integration for game developers.
