Italian cyclist Andrea Vendrame claimed victory on stage 19 of the Giro d'Italia, breaking away from a long breakaway with 30km to go on the hilly 157km route from Mortegliano to Sappada. Despite a crash by Britain's Geraint Thomas, overall leader Tadej Pogacar and other top contenders slowed down to wait for him, showing respect and ensuring he did not lose time. Vendrame finished 55 seconds ahead of Pelayo Sanchez and Georg Steinhauser, with Pogacar maintaining a comfortable lead in the general classification.
