NYSE-Listed Stocks Experience Volatility Halts Due to Software Glitch

Reported 4 months ago

A software glitch during a NYSE update caused trading halts on 40 stocks, with some erroneously showing a 99% drop, including Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway. The issue, the third in US markets within a week, was resolved in 45 minutes with the use of a backup data center running different software. NYSE will cancel bad trades and is reviewing halts. The glitch did not affect Nasdaq-listed shares and had minimal market impact, occurring as trading infrastructure adjusts to T+1 settlements. NYSE is looking into the incident.
