Volunteer Heroes Gather in Chiayi City for Contact Meeting

'Volunteers' are unsung heroes who dedicate themselves to society, being important partners in government disaster prevention and relief work! The 'National Volunteer Team Chief and Deputy Chief Contact Meeting for the First Half of 113th Year', jointly organized by the Fire Bureau, Chiayi City Volunteer Fire Brigade, and Fire Department, took place grandly at 5 pm today in Chiayi City. Minister of the Interior Liu Shih-fang, Mayor of Chiayi City Huang Min-hui, and Director-General of the Fire Bureau Hsiao Huan-chang all attended, along with over 450 firefighters nationwide, volunteer team chiefs and deputy chiefs, and general secretaries, sharing disaster relief experiences, exchanging suggestions and ideas on volunteer firefighting work. Minister Liu Shih-fang first thanked all firefighters and volunteers for their hard work in the Hualien earthquake on April 3, reducing the impact of the disaster; at every major disaster scene, there are passionate volunteers actively involved in disaster relief and rescue work; some volunteers and companies generously donated disaster prevention and relief equipment and materials, ensuring the safety of frontline rescue personnel; the Minister specifically reminded volunteer partners that safety is absolutely paramount when carrying out disaster prevention and relief work, and protective measures must be taken seriously. Minister Liu Shih-fang emphasized that the Ministry of the Interior has allocated approximately NT$27 billion for 23 medium to long-term projects, subsidizing local governments to increase firefighting equipment and effectively enhance technological disaster relief capabilities. Regarding the promotion of volunteer organizations, they have initiated the 'Resilient Taiwan - Enhancing Various Types of Volunteer Firefighter Technology Training and Equipment Improvement Medium-term Program' starting this year, with a total budget of NT$820 million, aiming to jointly enhance the professional skills of volunteer organizations through central and local cooperation, strengthening Taiwan's disaster resilience. Minister Liu awarded additional benefits to commend the efforts of volunteer firefighters in their usual assistance and training, expressing special gratitude to volunteer work partners for their long-term voluntary commitment to disaster relief assistance, being the government's strongest support. They will continue to fully support civilian disaster response capabilities and collaborate with volunteer organizations, striving towards sustainable professionalism to jointly safeguard the safety of people's lives and property.
