Walgreens is considering closing hundreds of underperforming stores in the United States over the next three years, as part of a plan to address challenges in the pharmacy model. This move comes after the company already closed 2,000 locations in the past decade. In addition, Walgreens is adjusting its business strategy to compete with major rivals like CVS and Rite Aid, as well as discount retailers such as Walmart and Amazon, amid rising costs and tighter reimbursement for prescriptions.
