On June 30, 2024, mainland tourists in a tour group walked through the Beigan's 'Qinbi Settlement' in Matsu, Taiwan, where they encountered many anti-communist slogans. Despite hearing the guide's explanations about the history, the tourists did not stop to take photos like most visitors. The trip was made challenging by strong winds, with locals describing the boat ride to Beigan as akin to boarding a pirate ship. The Matsu tour industry hopes to attract more visitors, including mainland tourists, but acknowledges the need for significant improvement in accommodation and services to meet the demand during peak seasons.
